Erskine May

Erskine May
A reference to a book, now in its twenty-eighth edition, the Treatise upon the Law, Privileges and Usage of Parliament. Written by Erskine May, the clerk of the House of Commons between 1871 and 1886, the work is much checked and quoted by Speakers of the House of Commons when they have to decide on some obscure issue of procedure. Speakers have been known to tell Members of Parliament that they must go to bed with Erskine May, prior to reaching their verdict.
